No Plastic Bags in Penang!

A depicted cartoon scene from our local daily, The Star,
on the plastic woes up north in Penang Island.
Just how aggressive this campaign is going to be!
So, are we bringing in enough help to clear the dirty environmental image of the Island?
How can we make Penang Island a really clean place to live in?
Most important is how can we present a good role model to tourists?
And we haven't yet speak of the traffic woes!
It is not only terrible but HORRIBLE!

The Sunshine Green Concern

It's been 2 long months since I was here!
As usual, I'd say time flies!
Well, not that I've been away as I do post bLoGs
at bLoGger for my regulars - POEMs and Cigarette Box collection.

I have some jobs to do for the last 2 months and that
took up almost my total time to write more!
And not forgetting I had to read as well!

So, I did read and kept up-to-date, especially on greens.
Since the last on the environment, I wrote about
the mart called sunshine ( in early July ) which went out
all the way to promote this greenconcern.

Well, this year is also their 50th Anniversary and
their opening of ta new Mart somewhere near my place,
called FARLIM.
This is the logo on the cover of their shopping tote bags.
Many events has been going around at the Island here about this great green concern.
It is a hot topic almost every day and I just can't sit still any more!
It really concerns our way of life for the future!
I hope I could make my notes in order and post more b'cos
the daily happenings and events are increasingly active!

Until then, I hope to be seeing you soon!
Thanks for dropping by after the sudden silence!

Saving Earth!

Well, one of those things we can do about saving the Earth
on it's environmental health
is to start on our daily life.
And SHOPPING bags is one of the first thing to do!
Yes, ReUSE, ReCYCLE!
or DO NOT USE at all!
Just like it's been printed on some plastic bags,
SAY NO to Plastic Bags!
Those are some of the few that I have collected
and they are quite serious in going about on their campaign.
The regular supermarket near my vicinity has a campaign
for not issuing plastic shopping bags for 3 consecutive days each week.
From Mondays to Wednesdays. So, you gotta bring your own!
Good idea and everybody seems to have adapted to this campaign.
In some countries I know they charge a minimal amount for one.

As what is going on with our daily life, each human being is
bound to harm the earth in one way or another in our daily life.
It is therefore we should all do something that
could benefit the environment!

As it is today  I myself am already feeling the heat energy even though
it has been raining almost everyday, if not at night.
The recent floods in China that has resulted in catastrophic landslides,
and the worst that has happened to Pakistan lately
shows that the earth definitely is bursting.
The global warming has been reported to be getting from bad to worst.
It was announced today that since January this year,
the heat is ever increasing ( infact the worst in decades )
and has been causing disasters the world over!
The threat of a Tsunami is always at bay.
Not forgetting the recent fire emergency in Russia
and some reported over the eastern coasts of Australia.
Do keep up the priority for news on this global warming crisis.
I hear one each day! Take good care....of Earth!

Greener and Cleaner Penang Island!

As I've said it, Penang really is grooming it's Island very well! Tourism is
it's priority as it brings revenue into the country! As what it publicised -
they are all srt to clean up the beaches!
Yes! The seasides of Penang Island is just too lovely and wonderful
to spend a vacation! Who don't like the beaches? But, as always, people
who spent their time there has always so oftenly left their unwanted
things around, littering the sands! Litterbugs!
As announced, there's been an allocation of 1.2 million RM funds
to polish up Penang Island! Really in full swing, huh? Yeap!
The Cleaner, Greener Penang initiative launched on May, 22nd has
really caught the attention of the Federal Government that this
probable fund is being injected into Penang! Well, One Malaysia it is!
After all we're doing for the good of the country.
Then they will have other areas to consider in following up
this good footsteps. Say, Port Dickson and Melaka
( Malacca to many tourists ). Langkawi Island
as well. And the east coasts where it has always
been prone to some bad weathers at certain time of the year.

As from now, many programmes will be actively involved in
this campaign and one of those things are the landscaping.
Yes, the Island needs beautification of plants, trees and flowers!
It will also keep the Island in cool moods as the weather
these days are unspeakably hot! So, green is the word for landscaping!
Credits go to the following participants in this project.

The Going Green is still Going on!

is still going on and still going strong
in PENANG Island!
Though we are experiencing some kind of higher heat, we are still having substantial amount of rain, while the force of nature wrecks havoc in other parts of the wOrLd, especially the recent typhoon that waves from The Philippines to China. At this time, the floods that is occuring could cause an alarming state similar to that of 1998's over flooding of The Yangtze river! The heavy winds travelling at least 128kph will slam through the Guangdong Province and Jilin City as reported in the last few days.
Another flood has also hit Pakistan last week and has claimed to be as deadliest as their previous disaster in 1929!
We are told to expect another Elnino heat identical to 1998.
So we are being told that this year is the hottest season since 1998. It is also being reported by our Natural Resources & Environment Authority that the sea levels has risen off the west coasts. Northwards, Langkawi Island's west coast would rise by 10cm while down south in Tanjung Piai, Johor would rise by 13cm!
Well, but our DID ( Drainage & Irrigation Department ) is doing their job in coastlines rehabilitaion that are listed under Category One. It was said that about 300km of coastlines in the Peninsular has been eroded by the sea.
Well, looks like our relevant authority has been doing a good job too! At least they are taking every precaution to protect the coastlines from further erosion or else our country will "shrink" in the next 100 years as being found that our coastlines will be covered with another 10-13 cm of sea water!
Whereas on land, we have people doing the part by intensifying the Go Green Great Concern!
Currently Penang has been the most agressive! Let's hope people from all over the country will increase their support in going green too!

Going Green

The weather these days are really unpredictable and not because we are not doing anything but just our doings are not enough! Probably we are still understanding the nature of Mother Earth.

Everyday people from all over the world and all walks of life, organizations, the government and private sectors are trying very hard! But, the fact is the damaging is still more than the savings!
Thus, we have to keep on doing it everyday, every minute and every moment of our life!

When we stressed on everyday living on green, the word eco will definitely be the best that we can offer. We have to get used to being eco on our daily usage, the biggest harm there is is in here!

In our effort to do so, our supermarts & hypermarts took first step on this - cut down on plastic shopping bags. One group that does this will not only help but also will save their own pockets by not giving out plastic bags for 3 days! Some does it for a day and others for 2 days a week. Well, this do help.

Hopefully what they are doing everywhere will encourage the new generation to do even more, of which I find that they are not! many youngsters are still throwing things away! They are not used to picking them up actually. They find it shy to do so.

From around my place, I find water bottles being sprawled all over the area, even the floors! Cans from their drinks too! It's the workers ( bangladeshi ) who will be going around collecting them during their daily routine job. Well, at least they know these things will provide for their pocket money at the end of the day. And they are not shy. I, for this instance regularly pick up something from the floor when doing my strolls or passing by.
Our local daily newspaper has been doing this campaign for the last couple of years and looks like their continued efforts are showing results, especially on the youngsters.
Hope their keen campaigns will continue on regular basis throughout the year!
Keep it up! Keep up the good work!
Of course the hope is that more people will step forward to participate.
Our weather is changing at a very fast pace!
it's been reported recently that our sea level is rising considerably too!
The current going on of typhoons in the Asia is a sign of unhealthy weather.
And it is still brewing! Just these few days, after typhoon wrecked havoc in The Philippines,
it has headed for further destructions over in China!
Over in Europe continents too storms are being felt!
And it doesn't seem to be going away! Seems like more are coming their way!
Let's all do something to prevent, everyday!
Have a pleasant weekEND!

A Green Future

These days since I got my line reinstated from my online absence of 100 days due to my migration, I've been spending umpteen hours trying to do some space house-keeping on my bLoGs! Phew! And I can tell you that being missing in bLoGspacea do have lots of tidying to do.

I've done up to continue my main bLoGspot space, mebeFree and updates on my regular Poems page. Plus reNewing all my banners for every bLoGspace I have in bLoGger! Updates being done for my Cigarette Memoirs too!

And now it's time to gear up Future Living - right here! Honestly speaking this bLoGspace is practically new. I created it for a new category taking out the Future Living bLoGs at mebeFree which was my first and only bLoG at bLoGger. In the years that passed, I have gone from an amateur bLoGger into a serious bLoGger. Through time and other spaces I have learn a lot of things whereby some online friends are good mentor. May they be old or young males or females. They actually taught me a lot of things. Most of all it's the reading that opened up new dimensions for me that I am who I am today!

Well, I dare not say I am being popular or having heavy traffic flow of visitors (V) to my bLoGs because of my frequent absence and limitation of making friends online. You see I have a habit which is my principle actually that I accept invitations only when they have some real profiles and are actively writing something or other activities like photobLoGs or just anything about themselves. Well, everybody can always have their first day and so will I! Taking today as another first step, here I am rolling up my socks!

This morning has been too late for my sleep ( for I have not slept through the whole night! ) and I am too early for any work to be done, so I went down and picked up today's newspaper - the local tabloit, The Star of which I must have! Even if I am late, the sundry shop will keep one for me! Before 8am, after a cup of milo, i brought up the paper and started flipping through and this page on Saturday Metro column has the following that is related to my page - about the environment. And something to do about my bags collection hobby ( both plastic and paper bags )

Since now that I am lodged in Penang Island, The Pearl of The Orient, it is downright for me to talk about what's going on around this vicinity.

Penang as I have found has continuously campaigning and promoting greens and eco-friendly community activities round the clock! Always constant.

The above picture shows Sunshine Wholesale Mart ( the place I used to frequent for my daily needs ) having this competition of eco-bags.
Entitled Sunshine Goes Green Eco Bag 2010, participants are invited to take part in the designing.

Going Cleaner Greener Penang is also a joint effort by Nokia and The Star together with 3 other Penang government departments. It's The Great Green concern that was at one time ( or still is? ) the theme for Going Green in Penang.

Well, those who purchase a copy of tomorrow's Sunday Star will get to participate in The Star Cup Fever 2010 in conjunction to the now hot on the topic wOrLd Cup 2010!

So, be at Sunshine Farlim in Air Hitam from 11am to 4pm tomorrow ( Sunday ) and watch what's going on! A lot of activities is happening there and should be a very busy place!

See you there then and come around here more often!
catch up with me!
Thanks for reading!
Happy weekEND!
